Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Series Launches In India

Maybach has seen unprecedented levels of acceptance as sales up by 145 per cent in India, says Head of Mercedes at the launch of Mercedes-Maybach SL 680

March 24, 2025

Maybach launched its Monogram Series in a luxurious resort in Udaipur, a clear signal to the world how they had their eyes set on Tier 2 cities. It’s no surprise really that they chose to reveal the car in Udaipur, known for its destination weddings and marble mines. It’s no coincidence that Raipur, a similar city in Madhya Pradesh, sold the maximum number of Lamborghini Huracans last year. Tier 2 cities, fuelled with unprecedented levels of disposable income, are looking at ways to spend it, and luxury cars are a ready option. “We are incredibly happy to see the development that India has witnessed in terms of sales growth in the last year,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes Maybach at the launch of the Mercedes SL 680 Monogram Series at Raffles Udaipur, in India. He further said how India experienced 145 % growth and sold over 500 units in the last year, and that they expect India to be among the Top 5 markets in the next year or so. “There is a very high acceptance of the Maybach brand in India,” he said. “Maybach is not just about powerful engines, it is also a drop-top cruising car,” he continued.  This is significant, because over 25 per cent of Mercedes’ sales come from cars over Rs 1 crore, like the Machbach.

The Mercedes-Maybach has stepped up its game in India by introducing a brand new car, the Mercedes Maybach SL 680 after a very successful 2024. Last year Maybach witnessed a 145 percent growth rate in India, selling over 500 cars to the uber-rich in the country. Maybach sold over 21,000 units globally in 2024. In India, apart from the growth in Maybach sales, Mercedes India recorded its best year yet in 2024, selling 19,565 vehicles, a 12.4 percent YoY growth.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is meant for those who enjoy letting their hair down for a speedy cruise around the city, for the pleasure of open-top driving. Made in Nappa leather, with a two-tone paint finish, it is a feast for the eyes. The Maybach insignia is scattered throughout in its design language, from the illuminated radiator grille (fresh new design) to the open top and backrests.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is a two-seater convertible priced at Rs 4.20 crore (ex-showroom in Delhi).  Deliveries are set for Q1 in FY2026.

Exterior

The car has two colour options for customers to choose from: a fiery red and a calm white, called the Red Ambience and White Ambience. It comes with the five-hole 21-inch Maybach wheels, a soft top, again accompanied with the Maybach pattern, diffuser chrome pipes in the same colour as the car. A new Maybach-specific bumper has been added, an elegant character to the beautiful machine.

The exteriors are dramatic at best. The bonnet is flushed with the unmistakable Mercedes Maybach pattern, and the iconic Maybach grille.

Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Series Interiors

Interiors

The interiors of the car are all about quality material and handcraft. It has been upholstered in leather, with a new stitching technique unique to a Maybach. It is the first time that the brand has introduced a soft-top using a Maybach-specific pattern. It has an 11.9 inch central display, with a separate 12.3 inch driver display, and a unique to Maybach-steering wheel. The backrests are also embellished with the Maybach signet. Otherwise in a neutral-dove grey upholstery for the red variant and all-white for the White Ambience variant, the Maybach logo breaks the monotony, including at the beltlines on the doors.

Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Series Engine

Engine

A glance under its Maybach-coded top will give you the answers you’ve been waiting for. It has a sporty 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine with 577 horsepower. However, the driving experience is peaceful, as Maybachs are known for their exceptionally silent engines. It’s insulated soft top, tuned suspension and unique exhaust system make it optimised for top-down driving.

Overall, if you want the authentic supercar experience, right out of a film, its a good car to give you that head rush, power engine and soft top et all. It’s no wonder, then, that Mercedes claims its sales are coming from young super rich who are driving the sales of Maybach up in India. According to a Reuters report, the average age of a Lamborghini owner in India is below 40, making them the youngest in any country after China.

It remains to be seen how Mercedes-Maybach responds to the demand, and brings in newer launches, and exclusive experiences to owners of Maybach in this country. For 2025, the company is slated to launch eight cars, including two EVs.
